SunTest #16 (Day 9 & 131), 2021

42 x 33 inches each
time-based image capture, dye sublimation on aluminum, (edition of 3)

The SunTest metal prints document changes in paintings that I make with very fugitive, light sensitive ink, dyes and stains. I expose the paintings to sunlight daily, and digitally scan them over weeks and months as the images evolve and change. Some colors completely vanish, while others remain. Each image or “Day” is like a still frame in a time lapse movie.

The metal prints are made with archival inks and become the final art works—as the original paintings no longer exist except as ghosts or artifacts.
